# About BIP39 Phrase

bip39-phrase.com is a reference site for the [BIP39 standard](https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0039.mediawiki) — the 2048-word mnemonic wordlist behind the seed phrases used by most cryptocurrency wallets. ## How the tools work

Every tool on this site runs **entirely in your browser**. Key generation and derivation use the audited open-source libraries `@scure/bip39`, `@scure/bip32` and `@noble/curves`. Nothing you type or generate in them is sent to our server — the site is fully static and has no backend at all. You can verify this yourself: load a tool page, disconnect from the internet, and it keeps working. 

## Where the data comes from

All wordlists are taken verbatim from the official [Bitcoin BIPs repository](https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/tree/master/bip-0039). Derived data on word pages (index numbers, binary encodings, prefixes, cross-language overlaps) is computed directly from those lists at build time. 

## How we write and check articles

- **Primary sources.** Articles cite the BIP and SLIP texts, wallet makers' help centers and release notes, official code repositories, and government or court sites, with links in the text. Third-party blogs are not used as sources for facts.
- **Verified numbers.** Addresses, keys, seeds and checksums shown in articles come from public test phrases. They are computed with the same open-source libraries the tools use and compared with the official test vectors where those exist.
- **Current instructions.** Step-by-step wallet instructions are checked against the developer's current help pages, release notes or app source code, because menus change between versions.
- **Visible dates.** Every article shows when it was published and, after a substantive revision, when it was updated. Typo fixes and new links do not change the date.
- **Safety first.** No article asks you to type a real seed phrase or private key into a website, this one included.

## Corrections

If you find a mistake, write to us with the page address and what is wrong (see Contact below). We check the claim against the primary source, correct the article and, for a substantive correction, update its date.
